Wicky Wicky

SO....I'm not just going to use this account for my schoolin'. "ClockThought" is too good of a name for just that.....

While I was posting my last Blog, "Currently? Current TV," I had had two Monster energy drinks and was listening to music. I had this brilliant idea of posting a blog on how crappy I feel now that the energy has been sucked right out of my being, but I decided against it. Instead i'm going to post this blog. A blog on music, because music is a skill of avoidance for anything. Sorry Cancer, music can even get you out of mind!

First up the Underground Hip-hop scene. One might ask what "underground" even means, I would reply, "music that hasn't sold out." There are a lot of hip-hop artists...musicians in general, actually... that have sold out in many different ways. Going on the radio airwaves, changing their music for money, remolding their views on life or situations that contradict previous statements, thoughts, or lyrics.

Anyway, the underground consists of artists that, for the time being at least, have not sold themselves out. Illogic, one of the best lyricists on the planet, has being making music for years. Have you ever heard him on the radio? Most probably not. A lot of us know about Atmosphere, do most of us know of Felt? How about Brother Ali? alright, maybe you heard Brother Ali on the radio, but I'm almost positive you haven't heard Felt. Do you know who Felt even is? Look 'em up, especially if you like Atmosphere. I'm just telling you about the people, don't look at me to open gates for you're lazy ass. Just joking! Relax, go check out "rhymesayers.com."

That's all I really feel like talking about at the moment. I WILL, however, post more on the Underground scene later, so keep your eyes peeled like oranges.

Currently? Current TV

Current TV, created by Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, is a news source that takes aim at the 18-34 age group. It’s main goal is to capture the attention of this age group in hopes they will take an interest in the current situations around them. Created because of a dislike for the already existing news stations, feeling as though they didn’t do a good enough job of grasping certain people’s interest or attention. Current TV has it’s own TV channels, which is convenient if you have satellite. If you don’t have a satellite service for your television cravings, no worries, you can watch the current videos on the Current TV dot com.

The tactics used by Current TV vary, but with that same goal still intact. They use the events in daily world news and put a spin of sorts on it. For example, there is a video of Socrates and Plato conversing over who is “hot or not.” With clear disagreements from two major magazines, they try to determine whether a star is really “hot or not” in a philosophical (sort of) way. The video is an animation, which doesn’t really grab the attention of the elderly. More the attention of younger generations, say 18-34. Although the topic of “hot or not” can be viewed as ridiculous, the video is covering something that a lot of American people actually pay attention to.

Also on the website, you will find videos that are less humorous and more ‘important.’ The recent earthquake in Chile has a video dedicated to talking about the looting that has taken place since the quake, the peoples struggle for survival, and even the families being reunited. There are numerous postings about the quake and it’s affects. For people that concern more about the ‘important’ stuff, this is perfect, straight to the point information without all of the bias advertisement infected news on CNN or Fox.

Hey, your not interested in Chile or who’s “hot or not?” That’s okay, do you like music, being green, or laughing? There’s information on Guru’s coma and the Playstation 3 issues. Do you like Graffiti? Check out the “Art and Style” section. Marijuana activists, check out the Bongwater Bob stuff on the site. Some of it’s humorous, other things are more serious.

The point is, this site (or channel) covers a lot of different topics that most people have some sort of concern about these days. Information is brought to the mind consumer through many different ways. An individual doesn’t have to view a video to learn about current events, they could read the story, just look at the pictures, watch a funny video. It’s really up to the person looking for the information, and if a viewer is concerned enough about a topic, they can even post their own videos that might just make it on TV. All-in-all, Current TV is a very good tool when it comes to knowing what’s new in the world. The only question is, how would you use it?

Blaise Aguera y Arcas (Augmented-reality Maps T.E.D. 2010)

I think that the augmented-reality maps are ridiculously amazing. Forget Google maps, and Google Earth. At one point, I, personally, thought that Google Earth was an awesome idea, but the whole "augmented-reality" thing totally blew that away for me.

The fact that you can look at it as a regular map is, well, pretty basic, but the zooming in and having an angled view like the Sims City games is pretty neat. Google Earth? Last I had seen it was an omniscient view, which is alright but doesn't give much to determine scaling. You can see a place in daylight, and see how it will be in the twilight. The Augmented-reality maps really let you know a place before you even get there.

In my opinion, the Augmented-reality maps are the future of all maps. If not, then it should be because they are amazing. Who doesn't want a map that can, and will, interact with the person and the surroundings? To be able to see different places, day and night, to see exactly what you will experience before you go. There is no other word for these maps (that I can think of) except "amazing."

The David Cameron Speech (T.E.D. 2010)

After viewing the David Cameron speech "The Next Age of Government," I would have to say that the man knows what he's talking about. It's true that society needs to have a form of government, but in today's world, there is just too little power in the average individuals hands. What Cameron is talking about is the fact that the world governments are basically out of the loop because they don't have the power that they once had. All thanks to the technology we have today.

It's because of the technology that we have that we as individuals are able to do things that only government associations were able to do. We can use the internet to see what crime is going on in certain neighborhoods, we can even see what's going on in our local courtrooms without having to be there in person.

In my opinion on Cameron's speech, the things he was talking about, the new age of government is kind of like a set guideline by the big brother, but with our own technologically extended freedoms. We as the individual of a country should make it our own responsibility to know what's going on around us, and how to change it ourselves if we don't like it. I'm all for that idea, especially when there isn't a president that i can think of that hasn't done something "wrong" in someones opinion.
